It is very hard to be friends with someone who is
depressed. I know I wouldn't want to do it. It is really, honestly a pain in
the ass. When I was depressed I lost all of my friends excluding two. Finally
on my road to recovery in the summer I was getting out of the house and being
with my friends. To me the band Walk The Moon has become a sign the
object of that sign is my best friend Allison.
The interpretant of my object (Allison) is an overwhelming sense of
happiness and acceptance. In the summer of 2013 Allison introduced me to the
band Walk The Moon, their first album, Walk The Moon, has three songs that
really shaped my life that summer and my road to recovery. Those three songs
are Anna Sun, the fourth song on the album; Shiver Shiver, the seventh song on
the album; and Fixin' the tenth song on the album. My frame for all of these
songs is the past summers with my best friend.
Anna Sun:
Shiver Shiver:
The song Shiver Shiver is definitely a symbol to me. Both Allison and I had boyfriends or flings during the summer Walk The Moon walked (pun intended) into my life. In the chorus the lyrics say "when you are close to me I shiver," and both Allison and I would gossip about how that was exactly how we felt about whatever boy we were with at the time.
Fixin':
To me Fixin' is an icon, and index and a symbol. It is an icon in the sense that the musical style is reminiscent to summer for me. It is an index because when I was recovering from my depression I would blast this song to remember that I was indeed fixin' myself. And finally it is a symbol for two reasons, the first reason being that the word fixin' is a favorite word of Allison and I because of the show Cheer Perfection and secondly because the lyrics speak about finding what you once were and being helped by another person. In my case that person was Allison.
Thanks so much for taking time to read my silly little blog!
XOXO
